🎯 Actionable insights

💡 1. Build a link-building flywheel that acquires backlinks naturally

Let’s talk about a missing element of your SEO strategy.

Acquiring backlinks through guest posting, outreach, etc., is difficult to scale.

Once you stop outreaching and publishing guest articles, you're less likely to acquire new backlinks.

This is why you need a link-building flywheel that acquires backlinks naturally.

Here's how:

Invest at least 10% of your content effort in creating linkable assets.

In simple words: Invest in creating link-worthy content pieces.

Some examples:

1/ Publish key insights from an original research report as a blog post

2/ Curate data from public records and create data-driven posts

3/ Publish annual reports of your industry

4/ Survey results

5/ Publish statistics articles (but make your page visually appealing)

Here's an example from Redfin:

Redfin has built a library of US housing market reports.

In fact, some of the data and insights are curated from public records.

From statistical posts to embeddable calculators, Redfin has linkable assets that are generating dozens of backlinks every month.

Example of an embeddable calculator:

The results?

  • 5.7K Backlinks on a single page

  • 2.1K Referring domains

Every page on your site doesn't always have to be about ranking high and driving more revenue. So, invest in the link-building flywheel.

💡 2. How to make your SEO audit reports more effective and actionable

The key challenge of a successful SEO audit is not finding which tool to use or how to design the report.

It is to make your SEO audit easy to understand and actionable.

Use this template to nail your next SEO audit clients 👇

Knowing the issues in your content/SEO strategy is not enough.

You also need to provide clear guidelines for the following:

  • What this issue is all about

  • Why this matters in SEO

  • How to fix the issue (with examples)

And to make this possible, you don't need any fancy design or reporting tools.

Simply use Google Sheets and Docs to make it simple and actionable.

See the below image where I have shared an example of highlighting SEO issues with key parameters.

Some tips to make the SEO audit report more actionable:

  • Include images, screenshots, and screen records to highlight the issue

  • Provide a step-by-step process so the dev team can easily fix the issue

  • Do not add too many technical terms to sound smart.

That's all, folks.

💬 Bite-sized insights

💡 1. Minimizing time to value to provide a better content experience

One of the ways to provide excellent content experience to readers is by reducing the time to value.

It is time a user takes to find the desired outcome (answer, solution, benefit) from the article/page.

You'll notice in the SERP how Google is reducing the time to value for a user's query by

Showing answers in featured snippets.

This improves user experience and helps the users find the required information faster.

Likewise, you should always aim to provide the desired information to the users instead of putting it at the bottom of the page.

Here are some blog post examples (from redfin. com) with low time to value:

Quick ways to reduce the time to value:

  • Short introduction (60-100 words).

  • Use Table of Contents (TOC).

  • Put the required information in the above the fold section.

  • Answer quick questions (what is, how much, when, etc.) in a single paragraph without adding any fluff.

  • Improve information structure by putting important headings (H2s) near the top of the page.

💡 2. How to build topical authority for a SaaS website in <6 months (by Luka Susanj)

The topical authority of a website refers to how well and how long a site has covered a topic.

And one of the ways to build topical authority for a new site is by creating glossary pages.

Here's Luka Susanj's method of building topical authority (step-by-step process):

1. Start with keyword research in your niche

2. Prioritize keyword list based on business offerings and niche relevance

3. Create a detailed glossary page for every highly relevant term in your niche

4. Structure your glossary page with the following elements:

  • Start your content with a clear and concise answer to the definition

Example:

Q. What is the definition of [X]

A. [X] is ___

  • Increase content depth by adding more related subheadings and answering questions.

  • Include examples

  • Add FAQ section (with schema markup)

“Creating dozens of pages targeting keywords relevant to your industry and niche signals to google that you are an expert or go-to place for that industry.

Internally linking those glossary pages with other glossary pages and blog posts further increases crawlability and relevancy.”
